Vocational Skills Program

ROSE /UFHOH Resource Center: A place where disabled persons find hope.

.

This is a year of many changes at Rose.

Recently, we started moving our vocational center in Soroti over to Luwero to make it easier to manage. Our long time partnership with Uganda Federation of the Hard of Hearing (UFHOH) is at the focal point of this major transition. It was decided that in order to reduce expenses while keeping our program active that serves the disabled population, it made financial sense to consolidate our vocational skills equipment over to UFHOH’s ongoing training center where they have been training disabled/hard of hearing persons in the arts of hair dressing and barbering for over 10 years. With this new consolidation, Rose and UFHOH have not only redefined the vocational program but have expanded the skilling to include computer literacy, business management, and tailoring to the existing hair dressing and barbering classes.

A part of this program is the internship portion where students are placed in local businesses to practice their skills and prepare them for employment. Now, our disabled friends and colleagues in the surrounding area will be able to choose a vocational program of their preference and look forward to income generating employment out in the community.

A grand opening is being planned for early April.
